Jay Coleman scored on a two-yard run with 1:16 left in the game.
to give the Herbert Hoover High Huskies a 14-7 victory over the Nitro
Wildcats Friday night at the Hoover field. It was the first victory
for the Huskies after three losses while Nitro has a 1-2 record.
With the score tied 14-14 in the fourth quarter, Nitro's David
Payne missed a 27-yard field goal try. Hoover's Jay Martin recovered
a fumble at the Nitro 40 a few minutes later to set up the
Huskies' drive for the winning touchdown.
Jay Martin scored on a one-yard run for Hoover in the second
quarter while Greg Bibbee tallied for Nitro on a three-yard run in
the third quarter. Bibbee had 103 yards rushing for the Wildcats
while John Blankenship picked up 129 yards for Hoover. The Huskies
ran for 198 yards in the game and Nitro rushed for 194 yards.
