Nitro's Skeeter Shamblin rushed for two touchdowns to lead the
Wildcats to a 15-12 come-from-behind victory over Hurricane Friday
night at Underwood Field.
Hurricane's Bill Woodward put the Redskins on top 6-0 with a
15-yard run. The drive covered 84 yards in nine plays, including a
29-yard run by Woodward.
Nitro's touchdowns were set up by Redskin miscues. A snap over
the punter's head put the ball on Hurricane 28-yard line.
The eight-play drive featured a 16-yard dash by Shamblin on the.
way to his first score. He ran the conversion to put the Wildcats up
8-6. On the next Hurricane play from scrimmage, the Wildcats
recovered a fumble on the Redskins' 31.
Steve White then launched a 29-yard pass to Matt McNeel to the
two. Shamblin then ran the final two yards.
Hurricane, 0-2, mounted a 95-yard drive on its next possession,
with Chad Reed scoring from the two. Reed led all rushers with 108
yards on 22 carries. Woodward had 102 yards on 16 rushes.
Shamblin led Nitro's rushers with 70 yards on 13 carries while
Ronnie Withrow added 43 on nine rushes.
Nitro, 1-1, visits Capital High Friday at Laidley Field.
