SOCCER VS. FOOTBALL: While Nitro closes its 1990 football
season at 7:30 tonight at Poca, the Wildcats' soccer team will be
playing Hedgesville in the semifinals of the state tournament at
Laidley Field.
Nitro football coach Greg Cyrus said he tried to accommodate
fans of both sports by moving his team's game with the Dots (0-9) to
last night.
"We tried to get Poca to change so all the kids could go
watch the soccer game,' Cyrus said. "But Poca didn't want to.'
Nitro (3-6) will be without place-kicker John Stalnaker, who'll.
be kicking soccer balls instead of footballs. Stalnaker has booted a
county-leading five field goals for the 'Cats. His kicks have
covered 37, 27, 20, 23 and 30 yards.
