Nitro's 20-18 victory over Ripley last Friday, aided by a phantom
down, will stand.

"I have talked with both schools and both schools have indicated that
was the case, that there was five downs," said Warren Carter,
executive secretary of the Secondary School Activities Commission.

But the commission does not permit appeals in such cases.

"As you can imagine, that's all we'd get done if we did," Carter said.

But Carter has asked Ripley to send film from the game, which was
played at Nitro's Underwood Field. Carter said he would evaluate the
film, then make a decision whether to take action against the
officials.

From the Ripley 18, Nitro's J.R. House completed passes of 1 and 8
yards, and then was stopped for no gain on two keepers. On the fifth
down, House gained the first down on a 1-yard run. The Wildcats went
on to score the winning touchdown on a Zack Collins 1-yard run with no
time left.
