Fifteen-year-old bowhunter Matt Brewer of Nitro had a bad night of
football Friday, but a great day of deer hunting the next day.

Brewer, a sophomore, played Friday night in the prep football matchup
between the Wildcats and Herbert Hoover's Huskies.

Though the football game didn't turn out as expected for Nitro (the
Cats lost 45-20 on a huge second-half comeback by Hoover), the deer
hunting Saturday was a lot better for Brewer.

While hunting with his neighbor Bill Daff in Mingo County, Brewer
bagged his first-ever deer.

And it was the big one.

He was hunting out of a tree stand when the buck appeared below him.
Brewer's shot was about 25 yards and the buck went down within sight
of the bowhunter's stand.

The deer's field-dressed weight was 169 pounds at the meat cutters and
the Brewer family plans to have the trophy (which had an 18-inch
antler spread) mounted.
