Twenty athletes from around the state were given $500 scholarships Saturday during the North-South All-Star Football Classic at Laidley Field.


Receiving scholarships from the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame were five players from each team. From the North, the honorees were Charlie Taylor (Parkersburg), Kyle Allard (Fairmont Senior), Luke Black (Parkersburg Catholic), Brandon Tucker (Wheeling Central) and Ben Kettering (Fairmont Senior).


From the South, the recipients were Aaron Dunlap (St. Albans), Trent Walker (Greenbrier West), Tyler Rader (Nitro), Jeremy James (St. Albans) and C.J. Huffman (Hurricane).


The West Virginia Coaches Association also handed out four scholarships to each team. From the North, the players were Cody Nutter (Parkersburg South), P.J. Polsley (Parkersburg), Travis Buttrey (Williamstown) and Jarod Shaw (Grafton). For the South, it was Aaron Shamblin (Poca), Justin Crews (Riverside), Myles Henson (Sissonville) and Keith Taylor (Princeton).


Two female athletes also received grants - one each sponsored by the coaches association and Guardian Auto Glass. They were Cassie Staten of Princeton and Ashley Hickman of Nicholas County.
