AP Players of the Week

Clay County’s Jared Klemen, Wheeling Central’s Chris Martin and Nitro’s Michael Scott shared honors Monday as The AP state high school players of the week.

Other top performances last week:

Scott’s Jordan Roberts rushed 29 times for 264 yards in a 32-14 win over Westside. He threw for one TD and ran for another.

 

Parkersburg’s Matt Lindamood carried 26 times for 263 yards, including TD runs of 67, 16 and 2 yards, in a 22-12 win over previously unbeaten Riverside.

 

Fayetteville sophomore Drew Weis rushed 19 times for 255 yards and three TDs in a 19-14 win over Meadow Bridge.

 

Tyler Consolidated’s Jacob Lohri rushed for 253 yards and four scores and had an interception on defense in a 40-13 win over Frontier, Ohio.

 

Musselman’s Corey Smith kicked a state-record 59-yard field goal on a free kick in a 20-13 win over Woodstock Central, Va. He also kicked a 47-yarder, averaged nearly 45 yards on three punts, and all but one of his kickoffs were for touchbacks.

 

Wheeling Park’s Alec Wood had 21 carries for 203 yards and two TDs in a 25-10 win over Brooke.

 

Fairmont Senior’s Logan Moore completed 10-of-13 passes for 255 yards and two TDs and he ran for two more scores in a 41-7 win over Preston. Teammate Joey Buonaiuto caught four passes for 128 yards and two scores.

 

St. Albans’ Marcus Fox rushed 35 times for 180 yards and four TDs, including a 1-yarder with 1:07 left for a 41-40 win over winless South Charleston.

 

Madonna’s Sal Conti ran for 133 yards and two scores on just three carries and threw for 103 yards and two more TDs in a 54-6 win over Valley Wetzel. Teammate A.J. Klein had 15 carries for 114 yards and a TD, two catches for 46 yards and a TD and had a 75-yard kickoff return for a score.

 

John Marshall’s Shane Lantz completed 17-of-23 passes for 243 yards and a TD in a 20-6 win over Buckeye, Ohio.

 

Wyoming East’s Thad Grogg completed 12-of-22 passes for 223 yards and three TDs in a 36-27 win over Summers County.

 

Jefferson junior Brandon Hyler rushed 18 times for 122 yards and two TDs and completed 4-of-6 passes for 121 yards and one score in a 45-21 win over Potomac Falls, Va.

 

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Lee Wells was 9-of-16 passing for 205 yards and two TDs in a 35-14 win over North Marion.

 

Poca’s Caleb Arthur rushed 18 times for 150 yards and scored three TDs in a 28-14 win over Chapmanville.

 

Cabell Midland’s Jordan Marcum had four catches for 135 yards and scored three TDs in a 49-6 win over Lincoln County.

 

Robert C. Byrd’s Cody Gilmore threw for 174 yards and three TDs in a 50-21 win over Philip Barbour.

 

East Fairmont’s Lloyd Harbert rushed eight times for 149 yards and three TDs in a 28-14 win over Morgantown, the Bees’ first over the Mohigans since 1988.

 

Roane County’s Eric Jarvis caught five passes for 125 yards and scored three times, once on a fumble return, in a 24-18 win over Webster County.

 

Bishop Donahue’s Michael Angalich completed 22-of-33 passes for 303 yards and two TDs in a 23-22 loss to Valley Fayette.
