Nitro quarterback Michael Scott
threw five touchdowns and the Wildcats outgained St. Albans 447-166 in the
first half en route to a 58-14 win over the previously unbeaten Red Dragons
(6-1). Ironically, Nitro Coach Scott Tinsley credited his defense. "I
thought our defense really set the tone," said Tinsley, whose Wildcats
improved to 4-2. "We came up with some stops there in the first half and
forced a couple turnovers. That put them in a position where they had to play
catch up." Nitro scored 30 points in the second period, scoring its final
touchdown on a 4-yard pass from Scott to running back Mark Massey following an
onside kick with 37 seconds remaining in the second. Nitro scored on its first
six possessions. All-State wide receiver Marcos Valentine caught four
touchdowns.
