Nitro quarterback Michael Scott completed 15-of-26 passes for 289
yards and five touchdowns on Friday night to lead the No. 16 Wildcats (5-3) to
a 48-13 victory over host Hurricane (6-2). Scott has a state-leading 33 TD
passes this season.
The Wildcats led 27-0 at halftime while losing in time of
possession 15:25-8:35.
Nitro's big-play capability was evident, but so was its defense.
The first-team Wildcat defense didn't give up a touchdown.
"We played a lot better defense than we did last week against
Cabell Midland," said Nitro Coach Scott Tinsley, referring to the
Wildcats' 56-48 loss to the Knights last week. "This was a lot like we
played against St. Albans (a 58-14 victory). We're going to have to play
defense like this the rest of the year."
The Wildcats host Huntington next week before a regular
season-ending visit to Princeton on Nov. 2.
The Redskins, who finally scored on a Terrell Martin 86-yard kickoff return, close the regular season with two road games -- at Spring Valley next Friday night and at Brooke on Nov. 2.
