Nitro’s McClanahan signs with Akron

Nitro senior Brett McClanahan signed a national letter of intent recently to play basketball at Division I Akron of the Mid-American Conference.

McClanahan has scored 1,378 career points and was a Class AAA first-team all-state selection after last season. The 6-foot-3 McClanahan averaged 23.3 points and hit 64 3-pointers while averaging 5.2 assists and 4.1 steals. McClanahan’s career point total makes him the No. 3 career scorer in school history, behind only Jason Beller (1,543) and Jeff Clark (1,361).

Akron finished with a 26-7 record last season and lost by one point in the MAC championship game.
