NITRO COACH John Sowards confirmed five Wildcat players quit the team in the past week, but he noted that was not an unusual occurrence for the program.

"We started with 61, which is about the norm, and usually we end up in the 30s," Sowards said. "It's pretty much par for the course."

In his first year as head coach at Nitro, Sowards has watched his team stumble through four consecutive losses after winning its opener at Poca.

Untimely turnovers and a lack of experience largely have been the culprits, he said.

"We just have to learn to take on to the ball better," said Sowards, whose team threw four interceptions against Capital on Friday.

Nitro travels to St. Albans (2-4) on Friday for the annual "Battle of the Bridge."
